Guides to bonus terms
Each guide takes one clause or one rule and reads it slowly: what it says, what it costs in shillings, and which section of the law applies to it.
Types of bonus
Free bets, deposit matches, cashback, no-deposit offers: how each pays and what it costs.
- What is a free bet and how does it pay out in Kenya?
A free bet is a stake the bookmaker credits for one bet. With stake not returned, a win pays the profit only. See the payout table and the terms to check.
- Registration bonus terms in Kenya: what to check first
Before a registration bonus counts, check eligibility, ID checks, wagering, minimum odds, expiry, maximum win and the one-account rule. Checklist inside.
- No deposit bonus in Kenya: what it is and what it really costs
A no deposit bonus is a small credit added after you register and pass ID checks, with no payment. Wagering, odds, expiry and a win cap set its value.
- Cashback and refund offers on betting sites: how they really work
Cashback returns a share of your net losses, or one losing stake, as cash or bonus credit. Periods, wagering and expiry cut its value, shown in shillings.
Terms explained
Wagering, minimum odds, expiry, maximum win and the clauses that let an operator cancel a bonus.
- Wagering requirements (rollover) explained with maths
A wagering requirement is the total you must stake before bonus money can be withdrawn. See how the multiple, its base and the margin set the real cost.
- The minimum odds rule in bonus terms: what it means and which bets count
Minimum odds set the lowest price a bonus bet can carry. Why operators use it, how accumulators are tested and what happens to bets priced below it.
- Can a bookmaker in Kenya cancel your bonus or your winnings?
A Kenyan bookmaker can void a bonus only under its approved, published terms. Winnings from real stakes must be paid, and disputes go to the GRA.
- Bonus expiry and maximum win clauses: the clock, the cap and what you forfeit
Expiry clauses limit the time to use and wager a bonus; maximum win clauses cap what you can withdraw. How to read the clock and the cap before opting in.
- Betting bonuses in Kenya: types, terms, wagering maths, tax and the law
How betting bonuses work in Kenya: free bets, deposit matches, wagering maths, minimum odds, the Gambling Control Act, advertising rules and tax.
Bonuses and the law
What the Gambling Control Act and the 2026 advertising regulations say about bonuses and inducements.
- Betting promo codes in Kenya: what they are, and the scams around them
Promo codes link a sign-up to an offer or an affiliate. No Kenyan law requires one for a lawful bonus, and sites asking for PINs or fees are a red flag.
- Can betting bonuses be advertised in Kenya? What the law requires
Yes, with the regulator's approval under s.87. Bonus adverts must carry licence details and safety wording, and may not use a call to action.
Bonus money and tax
Withdrawal restrictions, tax on winnings from bonus stakes and how bonus balances are shown.
- Tax on winnings from a free bet or bonus in Kenya: what the law says
Free-bet winnings face the same 5% withholding as other betting withdrawals. Since 1 July 2026 the 5% excise base can include operator bonus credits.
- Deposit match bonus: a worked example in shillings, from turnover to expected cost
An illustrative 100% deposit match worked in shillings: how rollover and minimum odds set the turnover, and what that turnover costs on average.
Bonus words
Short definitions of the terms in a bonus page.
- SNR (stake not returned): what it means for a free bet payout
SNR means stake not returned: a winning free bet pays the profit but not the free bet amount. A shilling payout example compares it with a cash bet.
- Rollover in betting bonuses: meaning and one example
Rollover is how many times you must stake a bonus before it can be withdrawn. A worked shilling example turns the multiplier into the stakes required.
